My Introduction to Matthew is done now!!!
Sweet! After two years, I finally finished my introduction to Matthew...
http://christian-ed.blogspot.com/2008/03/matthew-1.html
So, yes, it also serves as a study of the Intertestamental period. Oh, and yes, you'll also find a few tidbits about proof of Christianity in there. Plus it does compare the Gospels. So there are lots of details, but I think it all serves well for anyone who plans to study the book of Matthew.
So it took me two years mostly because I gave up on doing my Bible studies on the computer (my computer was downstairs). And over the last few months I came back to doing my Bible study this way.
So I should be good to go as I continue Matthew. I plan on doing one verse at a time and each post will be a long commentary and study of one chapter. I figure if Dr. Jerry (my pastor at CBC) gets to study the Bible all week and then only teaches on the mountain tops, I want to study from pastors like him and get the whole mountain... tops, slopes, and the deep valleys.
And I'm sharing it with anyone else who cares. =^)
So go take a look-see. Thanks!

Even and Odd - Preschooler Animation
So here is a new animation I worked on with my friends.
I'm making animations to pitch, and we wanted to do some in the preschool/education genre. So we're pitching these to Sesame Street. It's hard to come up with compelling educational animation that's only a minute or two long, but we'll try a few things.
First up is Even and Odd, where two monsters teach you about even and odd numbers. If you've got a minute, could you go to the video's Web page and give it a higher rating? There are too many competitors out there running around rating everything low.
http://www.aniboom.com/animation-video/437611/Even-and-Odd-monsters-number-song/
Oh, and please let me know what your kids think as we experiment and see what kids like.
Thanks!

A Resourceful Home
So Katie is keeping her Resourceful Home blog going.
I just checked our link to it on the upper right corner of this blog, and the link wasn't working. So I fixed it and figured I'd mention the site and mention that I fixed the link.
Here are some interesting posts on that blog...
- Katie's latest shopping trip (includes a photo of Eve and Naomi)
- Katie's latest menu plan
- Buying in bulk
- Latest garden update
- Latest meal swap
Thanks!

Joanna signs "milk"
Lately Joanna has been signing "milk" a lot. We try to teach her "milk," "more," and "all done."

So she's been signing for milk. I think it might mean that she's thirsty, so I've been giving her water while I feed her when she signs "milk." However, it also might mean that she wants attention, and giving her water is more attention. Time will tell. =^)

Overheard Conversation (marriage)
Eve: Who do you want to marry, do you think?
Naomi: Daddy.
Eve: (laughing) You can't marry Daddy!
Naomi. But I want to.
Eve: Daddy's already married to Mommy. Try Again.
Noami: (tearful) But I want to stay with Daddy . . .
So sweet, our Naomi.

Joanna's clicking
Joanna is clicking her tongue on the roof of her mouth. I remember that Eve used to do that a lot when she was Joanna's age.
The cute thing is that Joanna is using it to communicate with us now, where she'll turn to us and click her tongue, looking at us and crawling toward us. She's usually trying to communicate simple things like, "Give me attention," or "Pick me up."
I'd much rather her communicate that way than whining. =^)

My favorite Benjamin Franklin Quotes
These quotes are from Benjamin Franklin.
So apparently, Ben was wise, but he was a deist or morelike an unsaved Christian who didn't believe that Jesus was God. Pity. He had nothing to lose by picking a truth and everything to gain.
I do love to eat and taste great food, but sometimes food becomes an idol or an obstacle from life itself. Food is great, but it will turn to ashes with our body. It isn't eternal.
Dwelling on the crucifixion of Jesus Christ humbles me even more the more I do it (the more often I dwell on it and the longer that I do). Likewise, making a mistake that results in a loss (even out of ignorance that couldn't have been foretold) is very humbling. The older I get, the more losses I experience or encounter in others' lives.
When we need something and are desparate, we are not likely to make the best purchase. So in this case, the trick is to plan ahead and look for bargains, anticipating your future needs.
Ben has interesting ways of saying things. So what he's saying here is that it's impossible to keep a secret. Or moreso, it's unwise to assume that someone will keep a secret. I think life has taught us all that very well. Right? Right? RIGHT?????
The best way to keep a secret is to tell no one... or to have none. That said, I think it's important to tell your spouse anything of value and then to merely trust them (and if they aren't trustworthy, then that's something the spouse needs to work on).
I think most of us have heard that one. The world's a little different now, but the main point is still true... sieze the day and don't be lazy. At the time, people who were late to bed and rise were partiers and not hard workers, so they didn't make as much money, and they didn't sieze the day and make the most out of their lives.
I think this is a good summary when we want to serve God. Doing "good to man" can take many forms. This could be helping somebody carry something, using encouraging words, paying for someone's meal, or even spreading the Gospel throughout the world.
This is a quote of Ben quoting Alernon. Makes sense that he collected quotes. I think God does bless us when we ask, but often God merely opens doors for us to run through. He doesn't push us through those doors.
What he's saying here is that the person who is the least helpful or useful to a project or purpose is also the person who often complains the most about that project or purpose. In other words, you choose to be miserable and make those around you miserable.
You can never have enough money and wealth. You keep trying to accumulate, and then you die. I think the moral here is to focus on eternal value instead.
More quotes that I like (but will think about and respond to later)...
Thanks for reading!

Three may keep a secret, if two of them are dead.

Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.

What is serving God?
Tis doing Good to Man.

God helps them that help themselves.
from Algernon Sidney (1622–1683)

The worst wheel of a cart makes the most noise.

The poor have little,
Beggars none;
The rich too much
Enough not one.
You can never have enough money and wealth. You keep trying to accumulate, and then you die. I think the moral here is to focus on eternal value instead.
More quotes that I like (but will think about and respond to later)...
There are three faithful friends -- an old wife, an old dog, and ready money.
Keep your eyes wide open before marriage, half shut afterwards.
He that riseth late, must trot all day, and shall scarce overtake his business at night.
Experience keeps a dear school, but fools will learn in no other.
When the well's dry, we know the worth of water.
Does thou love life? Then do not squander time; for that's the stuff life is made of.
Little strokes,
Fell great oaks.
The cat in gloves catches no mice.
Work as if you were to live a hundred years,
Pray as if you were to die tomorrow.
One good Husband is worth two good Wives; for the scarcer things are, the more they're valued.
Fish and visitors stink after three days.
Who has deceiv'd thee so oft as thy self?
To err is human, to repent divine; to persist devilish.
Well done is better than well said.
Who is rich? He that rejoices in his Portion.
What you seem to be, be really.
Fear not death; for the sooner we die, the longer shall we be immortal.
Tim was so learned, that he could name a horse in nine Languages.
So ignorant, that he bought a cow to ride on.
Love your Neighbour; yet don't pull down your Hedge.
People who are wrapped up in themselves make small packages.
Read much, but not too many books.
He that speaks much, is much mistaken.
Glass, China, and Reputation, are easily crack'd, and never well mended.
Silence is not always a Sign of Wisdom, but Babbling is ever a folly.
To be proud of virtue, is to poison yourself with the Antidote.
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
He that lives upon hope will die fasting.
A little neglect may breed great mischief...for want of a nail the shoe was lost; for want of a shoe the horse was lost; and for want of a horse the rider was lost.
We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately. At the signing of the Declaration of Independence
There was never a good war or a bad peace.Letter to Josiah Quincy [September 11, 1783]
Our new Constitution is now established, and has an appearance that promises permanency; but in the world nothing can be said to be certain except death and taxes.Letter to Jean-Baptiste Leroy [Nov. 13, 1789]
Those who are feared are hated.
There are no fools so troublesome as those that have wit.
A mob's a monster; heads enough but no brains.
Doing an injury puts you below your enemy; revenging one make you but even with him; forgiving it sets you above him.
Old boys have their playthings as well as young ones; the difference is only in the price.
A penny saved is a penny earned.

Census Job Offer
Ed got a job offer yesterday for a temporary position with the U.S. Census! This would be an ideal position due to the high hourly pay and the hours they need him to work are basically weekends and an evening here and there.
The difficulty is that the job starts on April 26 with a week of training and we are scheduled to be out of town the whole following week May 1-9 in Hawaii on my annual family trip with my parents, all siblings, spouses, & kids. Ed wouldn't really be avaiable to work the first two weekends after he starts the job.
So please pray for Ed as he has to call the census today to find out if they'll let him keep the job despite needing time off immediately.
If Ed didn't come to Hawaii I would be traveling by myself at 5 months pregnant with two little girls, a lap baby, and all of our luggage (since we can't check). It's not really an option and all of our family are flying out of other cities so no help there, either.
Anyway - please pray for Ed's conversation today and that this will work out somehow if this is the job we've been waiting on the Lord for.

Watch my exercise
I've been doing my leg exercises (to recover from some pulled nerves in my left leg), and Naomi and Eve have noticed me doing these exercises. So they asked me what I was doing, and I told them that I was exercising.
Ever since then Naomi has ran up to me and said, "Watch my exercise," and "Look at my exercise." Then she would proceed to some strange stretching that involves planting her head on the ground and sticking her legs in the air. I can't help but laugh.
"That's an amazing exercise, honey."

Joanna climbs the stairs
We were at our friends' house Thursday night, and Joanna climbed right up the stairs. I remember a certain degree of prodding and helping Eve and Naomi make their first trips up the stairs. But not Joanna.
Joanna's only been crawling for about two weeks, and already she's zooming right along, leaves the girls behind and explores all over. Makes me wonder if we have an explorer on our hands. Time will tell.
Katie and I were talking in the kitchen and Katie pointed it out. Sure enough, Joanna was up three or four stairs and pulling herself right up. She's not super steady yet, so I went and stood behind her to catch her from falling. However, my attempt to help her backfired, and she was more interested in my attention. So we mostly just played, but I did help her a few more times in her climbing efforts.
Children are truly a wonderful blessing from God.

Eve's Shoes

Last weekend Eve got to sing in front of the congregation with all the participants of the Wednesday night program at our church. She was uber excited as you might imagine and wanted to wear her fanciest dress. As we were leaving in a huge hurry to get Eve to church by the 8:45 call I suggested she wear her black shoes (to match her dress & tights). Soon we were all on our way. About ten minutes into our drive, which is half way to church, Eve cried out from the back seat (very dramatic, our Eve) saying, "Oh No, Mom! My shoes!" I looked behind me to see her holding up her feet and displaying her two very different shoes. I had to laugh because really, how could Ed, Eve, and I all miss this?

We managed to get Eve to church in time and we hurried to her classroom where she left her mismatched shoes before lining up to sing onstage in her stocking feet.
