Summer Camping

Our camping trip this summer was cut short by head lice, but we had fun while we were there!

Finally on our way!

I didn't take long for Jo to get into some nail polish.

Most of it was on her toes.

Phoebe likes camping.

Our little Lara Croft on her way to the swimming hole.

Carrying a bucket of water requires extreme concentration.

Chillin' in the sand.

We only stayed at the campsite for 3 days.  It was very hot with very little shade and lots of wind.  Add to that the fear that perhaps the headlice wasn't gone after all and we decided to just head home.  We took the girls on a couple of outings.  One day we went to a park in town, visited an air conditioned pioneer museum, and had ice cream out.  The day we decided to leave we went to a well-known berry farm and enjoyed a delicious breakfast.  Eve and Ed hurried out to the berry fields while I stayed inside with the girls finishing eating.  Then they played in a fun kids' play area under the stairs while we waited for Daddy and Eve.  It was terribly hot, but both enjoyed the satisfaction of a job well done and we purchased several pounds of blueberries and end-of-season strawberries they had picked.  Then it was back to the campsite to pack up and head out.

Naomi's Protective Eyewear

The other day the older girls starting throwing pencils at each other during our school time.  I stopped them and am slightly to embarrassed to admit that I cited the adage "someone could lose an eye!" as I explained the dangers of throwing sharp pencils.

The next morning Naomi came to the table looking like this:

I said, "Hey, nice goggles.  Any special reason today?"

She said, "Yeah.  See, now I can throw pencils!"

Then I started laughing and she started posing.

This one keeps us in stitches!

Eve's Huge Hat

Eve made this hat for "Hat Night" at church a couple weeks ago.  It's huge, made from a sheet of blueprint paper, and took her three afternoons to completely glitter.

It was huge and she thought it was hilarious to walk around with it completely covering her up.  Eve even put her hand in my back pocket at church and walked around like a giggly, blind person.  She was so very proud of it, but I couldn't shake the feeling that it looked like a KKK hood.

Joanna's Mask

Joanna had a great time playing with our dress-up sword the other day.  She was cracking me up running back and forth whacking things with one hand and holding this plastic tub up to her face with the other.  It was like her protective mask and she was soooo proud of it.

Phoebe's Slippers

Today I put slippers on Phoebe for the first time.  She loved them and insisted I keep putting them back onto her feet when they fell off or shifted awkwardly.  I must have helped her with it a dozen times in the 3 hours between naptime and bedtime.

I loved this photo.  Our baby isn't much of a baby anymore.
