Celebrating Purim

The other night we celebrate Purim with our small group friends. Purim is a traditional Jewish holiday to remember how God used Esther to save the Jewish people from extermination by Haman's plot. Here are the girls all dressed up for the party:

Joanna insisted on putting her hood up and I thought she was just too cute NOT to take a picture.

Our hosting friend educated us about the 4 Mitzvots of Purim which are:

1. Acts of Kindness - We brought some new toys for a needy family

2. Honor the Appointed Time - Just remembering and celebrating

3. Reading of the Megillah - We read a children's story of Esther rather than the Biblical book to help with attention span. The kids had a great time booing and banging on pots and pans whenever Haman's name was mentioned.

4. Enjoy the Holiday Meal - We all brought fruit (but skipped nuts) which are traditional Purim gifts and other treats for the kids to enjoy. Of special note were the Hamantaschen or Haman's Ears that are also a traditional treat. Thanks to my mommy friends for making these special treats!

We had a great time and I so appreciate that we got to celebrate this holiday with close friends.
